To encourage health and longevity in the community and surrounding areas by being energetic and compassionate.

I strive to make a difference in the community and environment by assisting with the transitional process to becoming healthier and improving lifestyle.

About me

I obtained a B.Sc degree in Dietetics at North West University in Potchefstroom in 2012.

I am registered with the HPCSA, ADSA as well as the Discovery Vitality Network.

I have worked as a community service dietitian in Potchefstroom Sub-district (Clinics) after I have completed my studies. I have been working as a Clinical Dietitian since 2014.

My special interests are pre- and post-natal care, infants and children as well as diabetics.

A dietitian’s main goal is to supply knowledge and skills to be able to make informed choices concerning food and health.

My Story

I have considered different fields of study, but dietetics fascinated me and related well to my passion, previous experiences, my childhood and my faith. I knew that that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It is my passion.

While still at school, I realised that I had a passion for working with people, helping people in need or people struggling mentally and emotionally. My passion grew as I became older and I knew that my future lay with dietetics.

Healthy Eating in my childhood…

Growing up eating healthy food was always important. My parents had a small vegetable garden where I could forage for lettuce to be used in the salad or some spinach for dinner. This was one of the highlights of my days – being in the garden harvesting some homegrown vegetables for our meals. This fueled my passion for healthy vegetables and preparing healthy meals.

People around me…

All my life people around me always tried quick fix diets available on the market, clean eating diets and many followed unhealthy eating practices. This really bothered me and still does. As a health professional I can see the harm that is done to their bodies and minds. They really become upset and emotional when these diets do not generate results after returning to their normal eating habits. I felt helpless. I want to help people to feel good about themselves. This spurred me on to obtain the knowledge I needed to assist people to lead a happy healthy life.

Reasons why being healthy is important to me…

Everyone has specific reasons motivating us to lead a healthy life, but I have quite a few I find encouraging. I came across this amazing blog that immediately inspired me. This is in short the crux of the blog:

  • 1 Corinthians 10:31 says whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. We have to glorify him by taking care of our bodies.
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19 -20 reminds us that our body does not belong to us but to God – it is God’s temple. Thus we are obligated to take care of our body by what we eat and drink.
  • Ephesians 2:10 says we are God’s masterpiece and we were created to do good things for God. Now if we are tired and don’t have energy because we are not being healthy how are we going to fulfill our purpose in life.

 

What we believe determines what we do and by being healthy we shall be honouring God.
